Rusian Twist Exercise
This is a standard exercise in most gyms. It’s a great exercise that utilizes a lot of abdominal muscle at once.
Benefits
Strengthens your ability to twist or rotate your torso. Helps flex the spine and maintain control over abdominal muscles and helps stabilize your spine and pelvis.
Body Parts Used
All crunches use the rectus abdominis, but the Russian Twist exercise also place emphasis on the external obliques. These muscles are responsible for rotation and twisting of your spine.

Instructions for a Russian Twist
- Sit on a mat or bench
- Extend hands out in front of you. Add weights if you want a harder exercise.
- Lean back as far as is comfortable. Abdominal muscles will tighten.
- Turn your shoulders in one direction and then the other.
- repeat for as many repetitions as desired.
Variations (all are good and valid options)
- Can hold any type of weight available
- Feet off the ground or on the ground
- Sit on an exercise ball
- Stay on one side until fatigue, then rest a bit before starting on the other side
